We would like to thank all our amazing producers and customers that have helped secure our place, once again, in The Age Good Food Guide.

The 2019 Guide features and reviews the best 500 restaurants in Australia and we are very proud to be one of them. We love what we do, and we are thrilled that you do too! Thanks again for your support.

All the wonders of the wood-fired oven, in a convivial neighbourhood setting.

The Woodhouse, it’s large space broken up into smaller areas, has been a feature of Bendigo for some years. It’s best known for its steaks and its wonderful wood-fired grill. Take your pick of Sher or Coouna wagyu, Cape Grim, or closer-to-home Inglewood, each with three different cuts, served with Hasselback potatoes.

That selection would be enough in most restaurants, but The Woodhouse also provides excellent pizza, and a range of other dishes such as a corn-fed duck breast with grilled radicchio, peach and wild fig. The sides are large enough to make good first courses – try cos salad with jamon crisps, pecorino and shavings of mullet toe for an elegant, yet full throttle play on a caesar – or keep it classic and order a charcuterie platter for the table. Everything is consistently impressive – the cooking, the drinks list that emphasises Victorian wines and beer, and waiters who are alert without being fussy.

Go for lunch: great vale two- or three- course fixed price.
